J.K. Simmons reveals he’s contracted for two Spider-Man sequels

June 1, 2020 by Gary Collinson

J.K. Simmons made a surprise return to the Spider-Man franchise last year with his cameo as J. Jonah Jameson in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Homecoming, reprising the role his played so memorably in Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man trilogy in the early 2000s.

Well, with any luck, we won’t have seen the last of Simmons’ Jameson, as the Oscar-winner has revealed to PeopleTV that he’s signed up for multiple appearances:

“I don’t know if I would use the word expect,” said Simmons when asked it he expects to appear in Sony and Marvel’s as-yet-untitled Spider-Man 3. “When we signed on for the first movie we signed a contract to do two sequels as well. Which, that’s always a one-sided, well not always but in my case, a one-sided contract where you’re committed to do it but they’re not necessarily committed to use your character in the ensuing movies. It was great to have the opportunity as these things evolve to be one of the holdovers from the previous version.”

As Simmons states, it’s standard practice for Marvel to tie up its actors to multi-film deals, and so there’s certainly no guarantee that he’ll appear in two sequels. Meanwhile, if rumours are to be believed the MCU may not be the only cinematic universe where Jameson appears, as it has also been claimed that he’ll appear in Sony’s Morbius movie – part of the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters.

Are you hoping to see Simmons’ Jameson back in the web-slinger’s next outing? Let us know in the comments or on our social channels @flickeringmyth…
