The Flash contains Ben Affleck’s favorite scenes as Batman

January 8, 2022 by Ricky Church

For years now there has been a constant back-and-forth among fans and others as to Ben Affleck’s ongoing role as Batman in the DCEU and the question of whether or not called time on the character.

It seemed like he was ready to put it behind him after the 2017 release of Justice League, but he not only came back to shoot new material for Zack Snyder’s proper vision but he is donning and cape and cowl one last time for The Flash and has said the upcoming movie contains his favourite scenes as the Dark Knight.

In an interview with Herald Sun, Affleck opened up about his time as Batman – including all the converging problems of the Justice League shoot – and confirmed his role in The Flash would be his exit as the character. Affleck first starred as Batman in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, had a small role in Suicide Squad and starred in the aforementioned Justice League. Out of all those times playing Batman, Affleck’s favourite has been in The Flash and he is very pleased with how they portrayed Batman.

“I have never said this — this is hot off the presses — but maybe my favorite scenes in terms of Batman and the interpretation of Batman that I have done, were in The Flash movie,” Affleck said. “I hope they maintain the integrity of what we did because I thought it was great and really interesting — different, but not in a way that is incongruent with the character. Who knows? Maybe they will decide that it doesn’t work, but when I went and did it, it was really fun and really, really satisfying and encouraging and I thought, ‘Wow — I think I have finally figured it out.’”

Affleck also added shooting the extra scenes for Zack Snyder’s Justice League and his role in The Flash has put “a really nice finish on my experience with that character,” a positive reversal from what was originally his final bow as Batman under Joss Whedon with Justice League.

The Flash stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash alongside his Zack Snyder’s Justice League co-stars Ben Affleck (Batman) and Kiersey Clemons (Iris West) with Andy Muschietti (It) directing. The Flash will see Michael Keaton making his return as Batman along with Ron Livingston (Office Space) as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdu (Pan’s Labyrinth) as Nora Allen and Sasha Calle (The Young and the Restless) as Supergirl. Michael Shannon and Antje Traue are also expected to reprise their Man of Steel roles as General Zod and Faora-Ul.

The Flash is set for release on November 4th, 2022.
