The CW’s Gotham Knights casts Fallon Smythe and Tyler DiChiara

March 7, 2022 by Ricky Church

The CW has made its first casting announcement for Gotham Knights, a Batman series set after his apparent death where his young sidekicks must come together to protect Gotham City and solve his murder. Per Variety, Fallon Smythe (grown-ish) and Tyler DiChiara (The Virgin of Highland Park) are the first to join the series which has been given a pilot order.

Smythe will play Harper Row, who is “streetwise, acerbic and often underestimated, the blue-haired bisexual is a gifted engineer who can fix anything. But what Harper wants most of all is to repair the broken lives of her and her brother, Cullen, the only person she trusts.”

DiChiara is Cullen Row. “After years of hiding his true self from an abusive parent, the transgender teen is tired of being polite and agreeable. Clever and adept at reading human nature, Cullen is ready to fight his own battles.”

Harper and Cullen are relatively new additions to the Batman comics. Created by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, Harper and Cullen are two of Gotham’s young citizens who Batman rescued from a young teenage gang. Inspired by Batman, Harper used her technical skills to try tracking and helping him and eventually joined his team of allies as the hero Bluebird. Perhaps we’ll see her become Bluebird as she joins Batman’s sidekicks in their new mission.

Gotham Knights is written by Batwoman‘s Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux and Natalie Abrams and produced by Berlanti Productions, but is unrelated to Batwoman, as well as the upcoming video game title of the same name. The logline for the pilot reads:

Gotham Knights will follow Bruce Wayne’s rebellious adopted son in the wake of Bruce’s murder as he’s forced to forge an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies after they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader.

As the city’s most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names. But in a Gotham with no Dark Knight to protect it, the city becomes more dangerous than it’s ever been. However, hope comes from the most unexpected of places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviors, known as the Gotham Knights.
