Blumhouse’s Five Nights at Freddy’s movie finds its director

October 6, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

An adaptation of popular videogame Five Nights At Freddy’s has been in development longer than it used to take to load a Commodore64 game via cassette (one for the kids there), but it has finally found its director in Emma Tammi.

Once a project for both Home Alone‘s Chris Columbus and Monster House‘s Gil Kenan, Five Nights At Freddy’s has already undergone a complete script rewrite, and seen Blumhouse super-producer Jason Blum admit that they “haven’t quite figured it out”.

However, it now appears that we’re finally moving off the load screen with THR reporting that Emma Tammi, who directed 2018’s The Wind, will orchestrate the animatronic madness that takes place at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, with production set to get underway in 2023.

Five Nights At Freddy’s was created by Scott Cawthon, who is onboard as a producer alongside Blumhouse. The game follows a troubled security guard as he begins working at the family friendly pizza joint, before his shift descends into a murderous after-hours survival mission as a series of animatronic creatures go on a rampage. Jim Henson’s Creature Shop will bring the nightmarish characters to life.

In a statement The Invisible Man and Insidious producer Jason Blum said “Five Nights at Freddy’s is more consistently asked about than any other film I’ve ever worked on, and I’m thrilled to confirm it’s finally happening! With Emma Tammi at the helm, we’re committed to making Scott’s vision of the movie come to life. Rest assured, it will be and is worth the wait.”

Are you as thrilled as he is about Five Nights at Freddy’s? Do you think it will be worth the wait? Let us know by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
