Shawnee Smith circling Saw return as Saw X fills out its cast

December 11, 2022 by Gary Collinson

It seems that Tobin Bell’s John Kramer won’t be the only Saw veteran back from the dead somehow in the upcoming tenth instalment of the horror franchise, with Deadline reporting that Shawnee Smith is expected to reprise her role as Amanda Young in Saw X.

Appearing in the first film as a victim of Kramer’s, Smith’s Amanda was later revealed as an apprentice of the Jigsaw Killer. Although both characters died in 2006’s Saw III, Bell’s Kramer returned through for every subsequent instalment in the mainline series through flashbacks. Presumably that will continue to be the case with Saw X, although exact details on their returns are yet to be revealed.

While Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures are yet to confirm Smith’s involvement, they have announced that Synnøve Macody Lund (Ragnarok), Steven Brand (The Sandman) and Michael Beach (Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story) have joined the cast of the film, which is being directed by Kevin Greutert, who edited Saw I through V and Jigsaw as well as directing Saw VI and Saw: The Final Chapter.

Saw X is set for release on October 27th 2023.
