World War Z: Aftermath gets free Extinction update

September 25, 2024 by Andrew Newton

The new ‘Extinction’ update is now available for Saber Interactive’s ultimate co-op zombie shooter World War Z: Aftermath.  The update is available for PC and consoles and features fresh mutators for Challenge Mode, a new XL map for Challenge Horde Mode for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S and a new, Extinction Challenge Mode that really is a challenge. A new trailer can be seen below showing these new features…

With this new, free update players will be able to attempt the Extinction Challenge Mode, which brings even more aggressive zombies that are even harder to take down and can infect players on mere contact.  Not only will the zombies be tougher but allies will be more difficult to distinguish in the crowd and death will occur after just one incapacitation, with respawns only available at checkpoints.

Every week in Extraction Challenge Mode there will be maps from one campaign episode featured on rotation and those who manage to complete all the maps in this mode for the first time will receive bonus rewards such as heavy weapon skin, 350 blue coins and 1,000 gold coins.

The Extinction update also introduces a fabulous (or not so fabulous) 13 new mutators for Challenge Horde Mode:

  • Grenadier – The Bomber will throw explosives until neutralised.
  • Myopia – After aiming, the player’s vision will become blurred.
  • Plague Creatures – During a wave, a random special zombie and poison cloud will appear to wreak havoc.
  • Mass Contamination – This Booster infects a larger group of zombies nearby.
  • Angry Turrets – At the beginning of the wave, all deployed turrets will become neutral and be a deadly threat to players and zombies alike.
  • New Advantages for All 8 Classes – Raise the health and damage of each class by 50%.

Also available is the new Premium Golden Bloom Weapon Skin Pack DLC.  Players can add flashy floral patterns to the Geist 17MP pistol, Paladin LMG rifle, Keris V10 SMG, BSS-2 shotgun and MAG-5 machine gun.

Go and survive Extinction, survivors.
