Neve Campbell officially returning for Scream VII as 2026 release date set

October 1, 2024 by Ricky Church

Get ready to scream again as Neve Campbell is officially returning as Sidney Prescott for Scream VII, which has been given a release date of February 27, 2026.

Campbell has starred as the protagonist throughout the franchise with the exception of Scream VI. She declined to return for the last film due to a low offer, saying at the time “I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise. It’s been a very difficult decision to move on.” Scream VI instead focused on Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega’s characters from Scream as they moved to New York City and found a new Ghostface killer following them.

However, Scream VII is looking to be a “creative reboot” after Barrera was fired from the film for her pro-Palestinian comments and Jenna Ortega was able to make time in her schedule due to filming the second season of Wednesday. The next film will once again focus on Sidney with Scream creator Kevin Williamson directing the film from a script by Guy Busick, who previously wrote Scream and Scream VI.

Courteney Cox is expected to return as Gail Weathers while Campbell and Williamson have expressed hope that Patrick Dempsey will come back as well, making his first appearance after starring in Scream 3 as Detective Mark Kincaid. It is unknown if any other Scream stars, including the younger cast from the newer films, will return.

Scream VII will be produced by Project X Entertainment’s James Vanderbilt, William Sherak and Paul Neinstein with Scream and Scream VI directors Radio Silence executive producing.

Scream VII will be released on February 27th, 2026.
