DC Studios sets release dates for Clayface and Dynamic Duo movies

December 14, 2024 by Gary Collinson

With Creature Commandos soft-launching the new DC Universe ahead of James Gunn’s Superman (the first trailer for which is expected in the coming week), DC Studios now looks to be turning its focus to the future with Deadline reporting that release dates have been set for two new movies.

Firstly comes the standalone Clayface movie, which has been written by Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep) and is being described as “a horror-thriller-tragedy” focussing on the shapeshifting member of Batman’s Rogues Gallery, who reportedly won’t be depicted as a villain in the film.

Clayface has been slated for a September 11th 2026 release, and while Flanagan was initially being eyed to direct, his commitments to a new take on The Exorcist and a series adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie means that DC Studios has been speaking to other filmmakers. A director announcement is expected imminently, with filming due to begin early in the New Year. DC Studios chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran will produce alongside Matt Reeves (The Batman).

Exciting news out of DC Studios today as #Clayface, a DCU story from a script by Mike Flanagan, has been OFFICIALLY greenlit. Clayface premieres in 2026.

Looking further ahead, DC has also set a June 30th, 2028 IMAX date for Dynamic Duo, the previously-announced Warner Bros Pictures Animation feature which will serve as an origin story for the first two Robins, Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. Arthur Mintz of animation studio Swaybox is directing from a script by Matthew Aldrich (Lightyear), while Gunn, Safran and Reeves are again producing.

The new projects join the Gunn-directed Superman, which opens on July 11th 2025, along with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow from director Craig Gillespie on June 26th 2026.
