Osgood Perkins is on a roll with recent original horror hits like Longlegs and The Monkey, but could the filmmaker be considering a franchise?
The Insneider reports Perkins is eyeing a potential new take on the iconic Texas Chainsaw Massacre series, adding his signature blend of horror, humor, and gore to one of the most recognizable horror icons.
There have been many rumblings about a new Leatherface-focused film, with Strange Darling filmmaker J.T. Molner, IT producer Roy Lee, and actor Glen Powell reportedly circling their own version of the film. With the rights back at the original owners, Exurbia Films, and no update, it seemed like all hope was lost. Now, Perkins could be the one to bring the scares back to this popular IP.
While no deal has been struck yet, the report claims Perkins is pushing Neon to develop this new take on Texas Chainsaw. The filmmaker has quite a busy schedule, so it could take some time to see it happen.
1974’s seminal shocker The Texas Chain Saw Massacre spawned three sequels in 1986, 1990, and 1995 before the series was rebooted with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003). That was followed by its own prequel in 2006, while we’ve had further franchise instalments and legacy sequels in 2013, 2017 and 2022.
