Boulder Dash celebrates 40th Anniversary on PC and consoles this July

June 11, 2025 by Andrew Newton

BBG Entertainment will be releasing their anticipated Boulder Dash 40th Anniversary on 24th July on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, Mac and PlayStation 4 and 5. This remake of the 1984 classic will bring new levels, new designs and new characters while keeping the loveable Rockford and the gameplay that made it so popular with gamers in the first place. Watch the new gameplay trailer below…

The Boulder Dash 40th Anniversary will be the ultimate version of the game in the series to date. This remake will feature all 60 original levels from the first three Boulder Dash games, plus it will also add 180 new levels, including some of the best from the global Boulder Dash community.  All levels have been given a great new look and have been balanced and refined for the best play experience. Players will also be able to create their own levels on an easy to use level editor.

For those unfamiliar with this great title, players will choose from three different characters to play and venture into a series of caves filled with diamonds. Collect enough of the diamonds in each cave, whilst avoiding the deadly enemies and falling rocks, to open the door to the exit. Players will not only have to use skill to get through the level, they will also require a bit of strategic thinking, especially to avoid the falling boulders.

Boulder Dash 40th Anniversary will feature:

  • 6 new, never-before-seen worlds and 3 new worlds created by hardcore fans.
  • 180 completely new, balanced and refined levels.
  • A variety of new and unique items to help gather the diamonds, including growing walls, slime, enemy generator, eggs and more.
  • Level construction kit to create, share or download other players’ levels.
  • A distinctive visual style that blends contemporary themes with an original colour scheme.
  • 3 different characters.
  • Music and sounds composed by Chris Huelsbeck, once of the greatest game composers ever.

Look out for Boulder Dash 40th Anniversary arriving on PC, Mac and consoles this July.
