Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Freeform has renewed Shadowhunters for a second season, which is expected to get underway early next year.
The series, which premiered in January, is based upon Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments book series and follows the story of Clary Fray, who on her eighteenth birthday discovers that she is a Shadowhunter, a human born with angelic blood and destined to protect mankind from demonic threats.
Shadowhunters is the second adaptation of Clare’s novels following the 2013 film The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
