Outspoken director Kevin Smith has revealed on his podcast “Hollywood Babble-On with Ralph Garman and Kevin Smith” that he has information about the new Batman costume for the upcoming (possibly titled) Batman vs. Superman. He revealed that director Zack Snyder showed him a picture backstage at the Man of Steel Blu-ray launch Smith hosted this past weekend.
Smith said, “I saw the Batman costume! More than that I saw a picture of [Ben Affleck] in the costume! I don’t want to give anything away cause that is up to them and stuff but I am going to say this…I instantly bear hugged him. You have not seen this costume in film before. It is, and for a comic book fan, it was mind bending. I was like get the f*ck out of here! Only you [Zack] have enough power to pull this off, man, because every other movie has done this Matrixy black armour thing… There wasn’t a single nipple on this f*cking suit man. It was fantastic. I’m telling you as a geek I was just like … I was like this is giving me a heart attack. I think everyone is gonna be like ‘Holy Shit!’ We haven’t been down this path before. Even the hardest-core “f*ck this movie” person will be like ‘alright, I’m ready!'”
A bleeped moment during the podcast revealed the key inspiration for the Batsuit, which rumours are suggesting was a reference to comic book artist Jim Lee (see above). However, it looks like we’ll have to wait until next year at the earliest for any real information about the suit.
Batman vs. Superman is set for release on July 17th 2015, with Affleck set to be joined in the cast by returning Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill (Clark Kent / Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent) and Lawrence Fishburne (Perry White). Meanwhile, Man of Steel is released on Blu-ray and DVD in the States on November 12th and in the UK on December 2nd.
