The Last Jedi revisiting classic planets, The Terminator terminated, Michael Shannon as Cable, more Spider-Man spinoffs – Daily News Roundup

March 23, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Rounding up yesterday’s big news stories…

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI TO REVISIT CLASSIC PLANETS

As we await the first trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the folks at Making Star Wars is reporting that the latest chapter in the Sequel Trilogy will see us returning to three classic planets in Tatooine, Mustafar and Endor. Tatooine isn’t really a surprise given that we’ve seen it in five movies so far, while Mustafar suggests we could be paying another visit to Darth Vader’s castle, as introduced in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. And as for Endor… well, I guess that justifies the Space Bear working title. Read more here.

DEADPOOL 2 FINDS ITS CABLE

It looks like 20th Century Fox has found its Cable for Deadpool 2 (and X-Force), with Man of Steel star Michael Shannon said to be the studio’s pick for the role of Nathan Summers, assuming the hotly-anticipated sequel can work around his schedule. Read our report here, and let us know what you make of Shannon’s (potential) casting in the comments.

ANOTHER SPIDEY SPINOFF

Following hot on the heels of the Venom movie announcement, Sony is further extending its Spider-Verse by dusting off its old female-led Amazing Spider-Man spinoff centred on Black Cat and Silver Sable. Disappointingly, it seems this won’t have any involvement from Marvel Studios, nor any ties to Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. Read more here.

THE TERMINATOR WON’T BE BACK

This won’t come as a surprise given that Paramount already removed its two planned Terminator Genisys sequels from its release schedule, but it has now been reported that the studio has officially terminated the Terminator franchise, allowing the options on stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Emilia Clarke to expire. Check out our story here.

THE FIRST EPIC TRAILER FOR CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS

The LEGO Batman Movie isn’t the only animated superhero film for us to enjoy this year, as DreamWorks Animation and 20th Century Fox are also bringing Dav Pilkey’s bestselling Captain Underpants book series to the big screen, and you can watch the first trailer for Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie right here.
