Paul W.S. Anderson on Resident Evil reboots, live-action Pinocchio director, GOTGv2 cut cameo and more – Daily News Roundup

May 24, 2017 by Luke Owen

RESIDENT EVIL(S)

Over the weekend Constantin Films and Sony Gems announced they would rebooting the Resident Evil franchise following on from Paul W.S. Anderson’s swansong Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. Producer Samuel Hadida had mentioned the possibility of this back in 2012 so it should come as no surprise, and it has been announced that James Wan (The Conjuring) will produce it with his Mortal Kombat reboot writing partner. Not only that, but a whopping six films are currently planned. Read more here.

ANDERSON SPEAKS

Following on from that news, Flickering Myth posted an exclusive preview from Lights, Camera, GAME OVER!: How Video Game Movies Get Made, which featured comments from Paul W.S. Anderson about the idea of rebooting the series. Read more here.

THERE ARE NO STRINGS ON HIM

Disney’s live-action remake catalogue continues to grow with Deadline reporting that Sam Mendes (Skyfall) is set to direct Pinocchio for the studio. No release date has been announced, but the script has been written by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story‘s Chris Weitz. Read more here.

JUSTICE SUITS

Although Zack Snyder has now left Justice League to be with his family, the promotional wagon rolls on. The Licensing Expo 2017 is currently underway in Las Vegas, and Warner Bros. has giving attendees an up-close look at the costumes for the upcoming DC blockbuster, with Batman’s new Batsuit on display alongside Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg. Check them out here.

CUT CAMEOS

Perhaps the biggest cut cameo from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was Nathan Fillion as Simon Willilams (better known as Wonder Man). In the movie Williams would have played up to his acting background, and director James Gunn has been posting images of the fake films he’d made including a parody of The Toxic Avenger (from Gunn’s former home Troma Pictures) and a Tony Stark biopic. “In a movie set 99.9% in space I didn’t really have a place for him,” Gunn says of the cameo. “So in a small flash to earth I decided to put a theater playing a ‘Simon Williams Film Festival,’ with six Simon Williams movie posters outside. Obviously, from the posters, he’s had a run of B movies. Most of them in themselves are Easter eggs of some sort or another.” Check out all the posters here.

R.I.P SIR ROGER

In some sad news to end the Daily News Roundup, Sir Roger Moore passed away yesterday at the age of 89. You can read our short obituary here.
