We’ll start off on a rather sad note this week, as Zack Snyder has revealed that he has stepped down from the director’s chair on Justice League due to the passing of his daughter Autumn Snyder, who committed suicide back in March. Snyder had originally intended on completing the movie after a short break, but has now decided to pass on directing duties to The Avengers helmer Joss Whedon, who will oversee some additional photography, as well as completing post-production following the template set out by Snyder. The director also took to social media to thank fans for their outpouring of support following the announcement, while producer Charles Roven spoke about Whedon’s involvement with the film…
…During Licensing Expo 2017, Warner Bros. showcased the Justice League costumes for Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg, along with Batman’s new tactical Batsuit; take a look at the images here…
…There’s less than a week to go until the release of Wonder Woman (which has been named by Fandango moviegoers as the most anticipated blockbuster of the summer), and this week has seen a steady stream of promotional material including a trio of new posters [see here and here], some TV spots [watch them here], concept art [see here] and a Supergirl promo featuring Melissa Benoist, Lynda Carter and Teri Hatcher [see here]. Meanwhile, producer Charles Roven has revealed there is no post-credits scene, while director Patty Jenkins has revealed that the movie has been shot entirely on film, as well as discussing the villain’s motivations…
…Jenkins has also shared her frustrations with the DC rumour mill after the film was branded a “mess” during production: “That was actually the most frustrating thing when somebody made up the rumor that it was a mess and I was like ‘Really? A mess? It’s the opposite, it is so steady, it’s been so even keel and steady,’” states Jenkins. “It’s been such an opposite experience. The rumor mill of these movies has been quite something to behold. I tried to learn to tune it out but the one thing I want to say to readers because it truly was stunning to me to watch is you truly can’t believe how absolutely false certain things are until you’re on the inside of one these things. …Patty Jenkins could have made her superhero movie debut back in 2013, with the filmmaker originally attached to helm Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World, and Jenkins has revealed this week why she chose to exit the project: “I don’t think I could have made a good movie out of Thor 2 because I wasn’t the right director. And I don’t think I would have been in the running for Wonder Woman as a result. And that’s one of the reasons why I’m glad I didn’t do it. Because I could have made a great Thor if I could have done the story that I was wanting to do. But I don’t think I was the right person to make a great out of the story they wanted to do. …Warner Bros. will need to find a new director for Justice League Dark, with Doug Liman following in the footsteps of Guillermo del Toro by walking away due to a scheduling conflict with his new film Chaos Walking. With production on Chaos Walking due to begin this summer, it would seem that Warner Bros. is keen to push on with the supernatural team-up as a priority, and according to reports the studio may be lining up It helmer Andres Muschietti as Liman’s replacement…
…Although there’s been no movement on the Cyborg film since it was first announced as part of Warner’s initial DC slate, Justice League star Ray Fisher has revealed this week that the movie is still on track to arrive in 2020…
…Pinch of salt time now, but a Reddit user claimed to have some inside info on two upcoming DCEU projects this week; first up was the claim that The Flash movie script is now complete (under the title The Scarlet Speedster) and is described as “the perfect coming of age story”, followed by a report suggesting that Matt Reeves is looking to have The Dark Knight go up against The Joker, Deathstroke and The Scarecrow in The Batman…

…Cartoon Network has announced that it is set to launch a brand new, full-fledged DC Super Hero Girls animated series from producers Lauren Faust (My Little Pony) and Sam Register (Justice League Action), which is slated to air in 2018. The series will expand the direct-to-DVD movies and webisodes that were launched in 2015, showing DC’s famous female heroes and villains navigating the social structure of high school while becoming superheroes. …And in other animated news, we’ve had the first trailer for the DC Universe Animated Original Movies release Batman and Harley Quinn, which sees Batman: The Animated Series co-creator Bruce Timm reuniting with voice actors Kevin Conroy (Batman) and Loren Lester (Nightwing), while The Big Bang Theory star Melissa Rauch lends her voice to Harley.
