Daisy Ridley-headlined Kolma set to be fifth Cloverfield movie?

February 12, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Back in April of 2016 it was announced that Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams would be reuniting with his star Daisy Ridley for the fantasy thriller Kolma.

Abrams is producing the film – a remake of a 2003 Israeli moive of the week entitled Kol Ma, a.k.a. All I’ve Got – through his Bad Robot Productions banner, and Bloody Disgusting is reporting that the project may well fall under the Cloverfield Cinematic Universe.

The original film follows a young couple who get in a car accident that leaves the man dead. Fifty years later, the old woman must choose whether to reunite with her long-lost love in the afterlife or return to the fateful day her life changed forever.

The news that Kolma is being lined up as the fifth Cloverfield movie is unconfirmed, but it would certainly fit the formula – a previously unrelated project, modest budget and up-and-coming director in Marielle Heller (The Diary of a Teenage Girl).

The third Cloverfield movie The Cloverfield Paradox was released direct to Netflix this past Sunday, after it was reportedly deemed “salvageable” and pulled from its theatrical release by Paramount Pictures. A fourth movie – the World War II supernatural thriller Overlord – has already been shot, and is still expected to receive a cinema release.

Daisy Ridley will also be reuniting with J.J. Abrams later this year as production gets underway on Star Wars: Episode IX ahead of its release in December 2019.
