Gone Girl tops the UK box office chart ahead of Dracula Untold

UK box office top ten and analysis for the weekend of Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th October 2014…

David Fincher’s latest film Gone Girl comfortably fought of competition from Dracula Untold to claim top spot at the UK box office this past weekend, pulling in £4,109,628 including £416k in previews – just under the £4.32 million debut of Fincher’s last film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, although that figure was inflated by four days of previews as opposed to Gone Girl’s two.

Universal’s Dracula origin tale claimed second place with £1,713,283, while two other newcomers also managed to crack the top ten: Bollywood offering Bang Bang earned a solid £602,193 to take sixth place, followed by animated sequel Dolphin Tale 2 in seventh with £536,766.

Elsewhere in the chart, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy celebrated 10 weeks in the top ten, and has so far amassed £28.17 million from its UK run.

5. What We Did On Our Holiday – £728,228 weekend; £2,083,907 total (2 weeks)
6. Bang Bang – £602,193 weekend (New)
7. Dolphin Tale 2 – £536,766 weekend (New)
8. A Walk Among the Tombstones – £310,261 weekend; £3,364,093 total (3 weeks)
9. Guardians of the Galaxy – £277,419 weekend; £28,168,896 total (10 weeks)
10. Pride – £248,654 weekend (4 weeks)

Arriving in UK cinemas this coming Friday are The Maze Runner (cert. 12A) [read our review here], Annabelle (cert. 15) [read our review here], ’71 (cert. 15) [read our review here], The Rewrite (cert. 12A), Gold (cert. 15), Effie Gray (cert. 12A) and Filmed In Supermarionation (cert. PG), while Scottish cinemagoes will also be able to catch Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (cert. PG) before it opens across the rest of the UK on October 24th. Oh, and on Saturday, cinemas will be screening One Direction: Where We Are – The Concert Film (cert. U).
