Matthew Vaughn talks Kingsman: The Secret Service sequel

February 18, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

Warning – major spoilers for Kingsman: The Secret Service follow…

With a hugely impressive US opening weekend of over $40million, the popularity of Kingsman: The Secret Service continues to swell. And success breeds rumours, particularly those of a sequel, and director Matthew Vaughn has spoke about the possibilities of what a follow-up could bring.

Speaking to USAToday, Vaughn has been discussing what could happen in a sequel, particularly regarding the fate of Colin Firth’s character Galahad:

“A lot of people are very upset that Colin might not be in the sequel but I’m coming up with ideas at the moment. If people buy tickets in America, I’ve got a feeling we’ll figure out a way for having Colin back.”

As well as introducing us to Galahad and the Kingsman world, the film also told Eggsy’s (Taron Egerton) origin story, and any sequel would no doubt see the character evolve:

“The sequel will be ‘This is the modern-day gentleman spy.’ Because Harry isn’t. Harry even says, ‘There is a reason why we’ve developed weak chins.’ He said that meaning, ‘Look at us, we need to get new blood into this system,’ and that’s what Eggsy is. I joke that we’ve made the prequel to the Eggsy movie.”

Kingsman: The Secret Service starring Egerton, Firth, Samuel L. Jackson, Sofia Boutella, Mark Strong, Sophie Cookson, Michael Caine and Mark Hamill, is out now in cinemas nationwide. Read out thoughts on the film here.
