Daniel Bruhl confirms Baron Zemo role in Captain America: Civil War

April 27, 2015 by Gary Collinson

It’s been expected from the moment he was cast, but now it seems we can make it official, as Daniel Bruhl (Rush) has confirmed to The Independent that he’s set to portray Baron Helmut Zemo in next year’s Phase Three launching Marvel sequel Captain America: Civil War.

“I think I can tell you that without being thrown into Marvel prison,” states Bruhl. “For the first few days I’ll walk around like a little boy, just amazed by the megalomania of it. It’s such a huge project. We could do 20 films with the budget.”

In the comic books, Helmut is the 13th Baron Zemo, having taken over from his father Dr. Henrich Zemo, a Nazi scientist and Second World War foe of Captain America, when Cap reappears after his stint in the ice. As well as taking on the mantle of Baron Zemo, Helmut also reformed his father’s team of supervillains the Masters of Evil.

Captain America: Civil War is set for release on April 29th 2016 in the UK and May 6th in the States, with a cast sees Marvel Cinematic Universe veterans Chris Evans (Steve Rogers/Captain America), Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Falcon), Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton/Hawkeye), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier), Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch) and Frank Grillo (Brock Rumlow/Crossbones). New additions include Chadwick Boseman (Get on Up) as T’Challa/Black Panther and Daniel Bruhl (Rush) as Baron Zemo.
