Cancelled Disney+ Captain Nemo series Nautilus finds new home at AMC

October 31, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

Most Disney stories tend to have a happy ending, even those which have fallen foul of the Scrooge McDuck penny-pinching of the Mouse House’s recent cost-cutting exercises, and that’s certainly the case for cancelled Captain Nemo series Nautilus, which has just found a new home at AMC.

The 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea series has followed fellow discarded Disney+ project The Spiderwick Chronicles onto a new network. According to Deadline the already filmed 10-part live-action adventure series will now air on AMC sometime in 2024, as well as streaming on AMC+.

Nautilus is a Captain Nemo origin story inspired by the Jules Verne classic, which follows the submariner (Shazad Latif), an Indian Prince robbed of his birthright and family, a prisoner of the East India Company, and a man bent on revenge against the forces that have taken everything from him, as he sets sail with his ragtag crew on board the awe-inspiring Nautilus, battling with his enemies and discovering a magical underwater world.

Disney announced the cuts and cancellations earlier in the year in an effort to streamline costs and shift their focus to producing Disney-owned IP rather than producing films and TV outside their studio.
