Martin Carr reviews the second episode of Supergirl season 2…Unfortunately episode two of season two is copybook stuff. After that barnstormer however anything was likely to feel like an anti-climax, but somehow I expected more than this. Not there is anything particularly bad about ‘The Last Children of Krypton’, just that they give us nothing […]
Gotham Season 3 Episode 5 Review – ‘Anything For You’
Martin Carr reviews the fifth episode of Gotham season 3…Gotham’s web is spreading wider. If ‘Rise of the Villains’ foreshadowed, gave cohesion and made Gotham a viable viewing proposition, then ‘Mad City’ is shaping up to be the perfect companion piece. There appears to be no episodic structure rather a meandering combination of plot lines […]
The Strain Season 3 Episode 7 Review – ‘Collaborators’
Martin Carr reviews the seventh episode of The Strain season 3…We have come full circle this week with The Strain. There are family connections, moments of regret and a sense of interrelation between characters which somehow ties things together. Hot topics are raised, dissected and discussed within the context of ‘Collaborators’, whilst a sense of […]
Supergirl Season 2 Episode 1 Review – ‘The Adventures of Supergirl’
Martin Carr reviews the first episode of Supergirl season 2…Casting is key in any programme and Supergirl had one big choice to make if this new season was going to work. In Tyler Hoechlin they seem to have found a perfect fit for that Clark Kent backslash Superman persona. Modelled as ever on Christopher Reeve, […]
The Strain Season 3 Episode 6 Review – ‘The Battle For Central Park’
Martin Carr reviews the sixth episode of The Strain season 3…This plays out like an extended section of the Cameron classic Aliens. Dark tunnels, pitch black caverns filled with twitching bodies and small factions of mercenaries poorly equipped for carnage. There are the occasional diversions into the daylight which primarily involve people looking concerned, but […]
Gotham Season 3 Episode 3 Review – ‘Look Into My Eyes’
Martin Carr reviews the third episode of Gotham season 3…Once again Gotham season three is jam packed full of narrative tangents, colourful characterisations and enough kookiness to keep those sceptics at bay. With plotlines gaining traction it felt like Gotham was once again moving in the right direction. A none too subtle homage to the Tim […]
The Strain Season 3 Episode 5 Review – ‘Madness’
Martin Carr reviews the fifth episode of The Strain season 3…True moments of darkness pepper this episode revealing more back story, more obsessive behaviour and a scene or two of close and personal brain dissection. Distrust is still rife between Setrakian and Quinlan while their common bond remains ‘The Master’. What ‘Madness’ demonstrates is how […]
Gotham Season 3 Episode 2 Review – ‘Burn the Witch’
Martin Carr reviews the second episode of Gotham season 3…Dare I say that Gotham is getting exciting? Proper plotlines, dynamic characters and a warped reality which seems to work perfectly. An off the reservation beatnik cop with a drinking problem, lunatics running the nightly entertainment and crime bosses dictating to an enthralled media. I have […]
Gotham Season 3 Episode 1 Review – ‘Better To Reign In Hell…’
Martin Carr reviews the first episode of Gotham season 3…There is a dark, sordid undercurrent to this opening episode which promises much and delivers more. Gotham spends its first forty minutes and change planting seeds and continuing the story with economy and no little confidence. Canvases have been broadened, characters deliver swagger along with glide […]
The Strain Season 3 Episode 4 Review – ‘Gone But Not Forgotten’
Martin Carr reviews the fourth episode of The Strain season 3… This episode is one long amount of aftermath. Fallout from the destruction of a singular foe in those final moments of episode three. Scattered and leaderless the enemy roam free with no fixed goal, no self-discipline and only an unchecked hunger for company. Elsewhere […]
