Martin Carr reviews the fifth episode of Preacher…There is a turning point in Preacher where the penny drops and things get intriguing. For fans of the comic book you knew it was coming, but for newbies this is a slap to the face, nut sack in an ice bucket sort of moment. However fear not […]
Wayward Pines Season 2 Episode 5 Review – ‘Sound the Alarm’
Martin Carr reviews the fifth episode of Wayward Pines season 2…Pines is not for everyone. I figure that has become clear for those who have chosen to read my reviews of this season. Mildly unimpressed is merely the tip of a larger iceberg in my opinion. Intrigue and mystery which made the first season so […]
Scream: The TV Series Season 2 Episode 5 Review – ‘Dawn of the Dead’
Martin Carr reviews the fifth episode of Scream: The TV Series season 2…With the manky corpse of Jake making an unannounced appearance last episode recalling Carrie amongst other things, Scream goes for another thematic chestnut this week. Take everyone new, everyone old, lock them in one building and see what happens. As it turns out […]
Wayward Pines Season 2 Episode 4 Review – ‘Exit Strategy’
Martin Carr reviews the fourth episode of Wayward Pines season 2…Let’s get this out the way now. Wayward Pines is not living up to my expectations. Season two is a rudderless ship adrift on an ocean of threadbare plot lines. Tom Stevens as Jason Higgins is stuck in a thankless situation where he must be […]
Scream: The TV Series Season 2 Episode 4 Review – ‘Happy Birthday To Me’
Martin Carr reviews the fourth episode of Scream: The TV Series season 2…Every time I watch this programme there is no avoiding the guilty pleasure it gives me. Scream is the old school 90210 of teen dramas, where actors clearly over twenty wander around looking anguished with a charge card. There is such joy to […]
Preacher Season 1 Episode 4 Review – ‘Monster Swamp’
Martin Carr reviews the fourth episode of Preacher…Good god I love this show! Now I’m not one for exclamation marks or a massive outpouring of emotion, but Preacher has lit a fire under me which refuses to go out. There is an air of justified arrogance and self-assurance which few other shows have managed this […]
Wayward Pines Season 2 Episode 3 Review – ‘Once Upon a Time in Wayward Pines’
Martin Carr reviews the third episode of Wayward Pines season 2…Building character, creating backstory and broadening the creative canvas sounds pretentious mainly because it is. Before any of that other stuff can be done you have to make people care about something. Conjure up a person who is defined by dominance, instills fear but remains […]
Scream: The TV Series Season 2 Episode 3 Review – ‘Vacancy’
Martin Carr reviews the third episode of Scream: The TV Series season 2…Apart from it sounding like an old thriller set in a motel, episode three of Scream is heading in a decent direction. Take away the plotline which is being dragged out concerning Jake and things are ticking over nicely. Meanwhile if we take […]
Preacher Season 1 Episode 3 Review – ‘Possibilities’
Martin Carr reviews the third episode of Preacher…Trying to categorise Preacher on Amazon Prime is difficult. There are moments of pure From Dusk Till Dawn and others that veer into Coen territory. It’s like someone took elements of both and decided to go dark with it, by which I mean pitch black of course. What goes […]
Preacher Season 1 Episode 2 Review – ‘See’
Martin Carr reviews the second episode of Preacher…Preacher might well turn into a landmark series for AMC. Nothing has started out with this level of confidence so early on and delivered. Between Joseph Gilgun, Ruth Negga and Dominic Cooper we have a casting call anointed from on high. Combining assurance of character, solid dialogue and […]
