The Week in Spandex – Civil War, Infinity War, Doctor Strange, Inhumans, X-Men: Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix, Wolverine 3, Suicide Squad, Justice League, Green Lantern Corps, Krypton and more

April 23, 2016 by Gary Collinson

…Turning back to the (dubious) rumour mill, and El Mayimbe claims to have a casting breakdown for five supporting characters set to join Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen in the Scarlet Speedster’s 2018 solo movie. If true, it looks like Warner Bros. could be taking a leaf out of The CW show for its plot, but let’s face it – it’s El Mayimbe, so it’s probably not true…

…Not to be outdone, El Mayimbe’s former haunt Latino-Review has been playing Nostradamus, churning out a DC rumour of its own this week, suggesting that the 2020 Green Lantern movie will feature Hal Jordan, John Stewart and Kyle Gardner. See folks, that’s how good Latino-Review is – even when a movie has no director, no producers, no script, no scriptwriter and is OVER FOUR YEARS AWAY FROM RELEASE, they still have a source who can give us the inside scoop. Incredible. In one other piece of Green Lantern Corps-related news, be sure to check out Anghus Houvouras’ latest op-ed, entitled ‘How to Turn Green Lantern into a Mega Huge Multi-Film Franchise’, which you can read here…

…After holding their own Batman vs Superman Honest Trailer battle to celebrate the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice last month, Screen Junkies has returned to the DC well for its latest Honest Trailer, turning its attention to Bryan Singer’s 2006 homage/sequel Superman Returns; watch the video here…

…Moving on to the small screen, and it looks like we have another DC TV project on the horizon – one which will reportedly serve as a prequel to the DCEU, and in particular Man of Steel – with Syfy placing a pilot order for David S. Goyer’s potential Krypton series. First announced as in development back in 2014, Krypton will see Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow) serving as showrunner, and “is set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet. It follows Superman’s grandfather — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos…”

…Supergirl’s first season came to an end this past Monday (the Blu-ray is available to pre-order now), and while we’re yet to hear officially whether the show has been renewed by CBS, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg sounds optimistic, teasing a “more confident, stronger” Kara for the second season: “This whole season has been about her embracing being Supergirl. In a way, [the finale] was her graduation episode. She hadn’t fully figured out how to integrate being Supergirl into her life. This whole season has been a learning experience for her. At the end of this episode, she’s fully Supergirl. Next season, you’re going to see a Supergirl who is more mature, and a bit more of a cohesive character. She’s taken the identity of Kara and the identity of Supergirl and merged them in a better way. You’re just going to see a more confident, stronger Supergirl than we’ve ever seen before…”

…Be sure to check out Martin Carr’s review of episode seventeen of Gotham, ‘Into the Woods’, which you can read here, while we’ve also got a promo and trailer for the nineteenth episode ‘Azrael’ [see here and here], along with a synopsis for the twentieth episode ‘Unleashed’ [see here]…

…Over at The CW, we’ve got a batch of images and a trailer and promo for Tuesday’s upcoming nineteenth episode of The Flash, entitled ‘Back to Normal’, along with an official synopsis for the Kevin Smith-directed ‘The Runaway Dinosaur’, an official synopsis for episode twenty-one of Arrow season four, ‘Monument’, promotional images and a trailer and TV spot for Thursday’s thirteenth episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, ‘Leviathan’, and an official synopsis for the fifteenth episode ‘Destiny’…

…The lastest DC Universe Animated Original Movie Justice League vs. Teen Titans is out now, and you can read Ricky Church’s review of the direct-to-video feature here…

…Get ready for more stop motion superhero antics, as streaming service Crackle has announced that it has renewed the animated comedy series SuperMansion for a second season. The show, which is produced by Zeb Wells and Matthew Senreich (Robot Chicken), stars Bryan Cranston as Titanium Rex, an older superhero who struggles to live with and fight alongside the Millennial-aged, often lackadaisical members of The League of Freedom…

…Ahead of its US release next month, a trailer has arrived online for the animated superhero adventure Bling, which features  the voice talents of Taylor Kitsch, Jennette McCurdy, James Wood, Carla Gugino, Tom Green, Jon Heder and Jason Mewes. Watch the trailer here…

…And finally, head on over to our YouTube channel – or watch the video at the bottom of this page – for the latest episode of FMTV’s Scooperhero News, where Oli and Luke round up all the big talking points from the world of movie superheroes.
