Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness undergoing six weeks of “significant” reshoots

November 14, 2021 by Amie Cranswick

It seems that all may not be quite so well in the Multiverse of Madness, as THR is reporting that Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange sequel is about to undergo six-weeks of additional photography which conflicting sources have described as being “significant” and “nothing out of the ordinary for a Marvel production”.

Leading man Benedict Cumberbatch, who reprises his role as the Sorcerer Supreme, revealed last month that he’d be donning the Cloak of Levitation once more as director Sam Raimi oversees a round of additional photography – something which has become commonplace on Marvel movies and many other big-budget blockbusters.

However, in THR’s report, it is said that the cast and crew are scheduled for an entire six weeks of both additional photography and reshoots in Los Angeles, and that they’ll be working six days per week (or more) right through until Christmas. Nevertheless, the article goes on to state that story concerns are believed to have only played a minimal role in the reason for such extensive reshoots, with principal photography in the UK said to have been impacted by actor availability and COVID-related production slowdowns.

Whatever the reason for the reshoots, Marvel has recently given itself some extra breathing room to finish up the movie, having pushed its release back from March 25th to May 6th next year as part of its Phase Four slate shuffle last month.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is being directed by Sam Raimi and stars Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Rachel McAdams (Christine Palmer), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Mordo) and Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch) as well as Xochitl Gomez (The Baby-Sitters Club) as America Chavez.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set for release on May 6th 2022.
