Limited Run Games has announced that pre-orders for the long-awaited physical cartridge of DOOM on the Super Nintendo will open on Friday 11th July in both a Standard and Collector’s Edition. This exciting news for retro gamers is also accompanied by the availability of pre-orders for the SNES compatible Rumble Tech Controller set to open on the same day.
This new edition of DOOM isn’t just a re-release of the original, this is an enhanced version that features a wealth of improvements that are sure to please today’s gamers and retro enthusiasts alike.
Headed by Randal Linden, one of the chaps who worked on the iconic shooter back in 1995, the new DOOM will use an all-new custom-made board that greatly enhances performance. Players will be able to enjoy all four episodes of DOOM, including the ‘Thy Flesh Consumed’ chapter, originally introduced on the updated PC release in 1995. There is also the inclusion of levels that were cut from the original release due to technical limitations.
The Standard edition features – a Metallic Gunmetal Coloured SNES Cart’, Instruction Booklet, a 12″ x 16″ Poster and a Retro SNES Box. While the exclusive Collector’s Edition SNES cartridge will include a Metallic-ink Gunmetal colour with Blood Splatter print and Metal Plate Label, a Premium Embossed Foil Box, the Instruction Booklet, a 12″ x 16″ Poster and an Individually Numbered Certificate of Authenticity. It’s also appropriately limited to 666 copies.
As well as the improved performance and restored levels, DOOM now also provides support for circle-strafe, monster re-spawning on Nightmare difficulty, an appearance by the dreaded translucent Spectre monster, full-motion video logos and much more.
Gamers will also be able to pre-order the SNES compatible Rumble Tech Controller, an open-source gamepad similar to the original SNES controller. This new controller will feature powerful dual vibration support, making it ideal for the rumble support featured in the new DOOM.
Both the Standard and Collector’s Editions of DOOM and the new controller will be available to pre-order from the 11th July.
