First look at Darth Maul in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord series

July 29, 2025 by Ricky Church

As the San Diego Comic-Con begins its second day, Lucasfilm has given fans a first look at the fan-favourite villain Darth Maul in his very own series Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord.

The series picks up after the finale of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which saw Maul escape Republic custody just as his former master executed Order 66 against the Jedi. His criminal empire and Mandalorian army had fallen and Shadow Lord will see him pick up the pieces to regain power in the criminal underworld.

Not much else is know about the series, but Maul will have a new apprentice in the form of Darth Talon, a Twi’Lek Sith Lord who is migrating from the old Star Wars Legends continuity into the official timeline. Also set to feature in the series is the former Inquisitor Marrok, who was introduced in the first season of Ahsoka working with Baylan Skoll and his apprentice Shin Hati.

Maul was voiced by Sam Witwer in The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels and his cameo in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Witwer will reprise the role again for Maul –  Shadow Lord for an expected 2026 premiere.

In a new series set after the events of the final season of The Clone Wars, Maul rises again to lead the underworld factions.
