Margot Robbie “can’t wait” for her return as Harley Quinn

December 29, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Beyond the December 2018 release of Aquaman and the impending start of production on Shazam!, Warner Bros. either seems to be keeping its DCEU plans very close to its chest, or the studio is yet to decide where to take the franchise following the box office underperformance of this year’s big superhero team-up Justice League.

Among the many projects that the studio has in development are several featuring the fan favourite character of Harley Quinn, and Suicide Squad actress Margot Robbie has once again reiterated that she expects to be reprising the role in 2018.

“I think we’re very close, actually,” said Robbie when asked by Collider when we might expect to see her back as Harley. “Everyone has been working really hard, myself included, to get Harley back on screen. I think it will be quite soon. There’s so much more to explore with her. I can’t wait! I hope next year, but with bigger films, it takes a lot longer to get it all up and running.”

While Warner Bros. is said to be working on Gotham City Sirens, a Harley Quinn solo movie, and a Joker and Harley Quinn film, it’s thought that Suicide Squad 2 will be the first out of the gate, with Gavin O’Connor (The Accountant) attached to direct and filming rumoured to be getting underway this coming March. However, that remains unconfirmed, and Robbie went on to reveal that she is yet to speak to O’Connor about the film, which may indicate that it’s still a little further away than we expect.
