Minions topples Jurassic World with biggest ever UK opening for an animated film

July 1, 2015 by Gary Collinson

UK box office top ten and analysis for the weekend of Friday 26th June to Sunday 28th June 2015…

Universal Pictures continued its stellar box office run this past weekend with the release of the Despicable Me spinoff Minions, which dethroned Jurassic World at the top of the UK chart with a solid opening weekend of £11,558,946. That’s a record for the franchise, surpassing the £9.95 million debut of Despicable Me 2, and the biggest ever three-day opening for an animated film on these shores.
