No Time To Die could be pushed back again into 2021

May 3, 2020 by Gary Collinson

It’s already been pushed back three times – the first two due to director shake-ups, and the third because of the global health crisis – and if a report from The Daily Mail is to be believed, James Bond fans may face an even longer wait to see 007 back in action in No Time To Die.

The Cary Fukunaga-directed film was one of the earliest movies to delay its release in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, but unlike many of this year’s other big releases which have moved into 2021, MGM and Eon announced that No Time To Die had moved up to November of this year from its planned April date.

Nevertheless, with the film industry and theatrical marketplace still facing an uncertain future, showbiz reporter Baz Bamigboye is suggesting another move could be on the cards, quoting a source as stating: “If it has to wait till next year then so be it. There are hundreds of millions of dollars involved here. Release it when audiences feel safe to return. But it’s a nerve-racking call.”

MGM is already looking at a hit of up to $50 million from pushing back the release of the $250 million blockbuster to November, but releasing the movie too early could also prove to be a costly mistake. Of course, no one can predict how the situation will play out over the coming months, so all we can do at this point is play the waiting game.

Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

No Time To Die stars Daniel Craig (James Bond), Ralph Fiennes (M), Naomie Harris (Moneypenny), Rory Kinnear (Tanner), Léa Seydoux (Madeleine Swann), Ben Whishaw (Q), Jeffrey Wright (Felix Leiter) and Christoph Waltz (Blofeld), while new additions include Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody), Ana de Armas (Blade Runner 2049), Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel), Billy Magnussen (Velvet Buzzsaw), Dali Benssalah (A Faithful Man) and David Dencik (Top of the Lake).
