Rick Famuyiwa to direct The Flash for Warner Bros.

June 2, 2016 by Ricky Church

A few weeks ago it was reported that The Flash feature film lost its director, Seth Grahame-Smith. Now Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. have hired Dope director Rick Famuyiwa to take over the project.

The Flash will keep the script Grahame-Smith had had written, which in turn was based off a treatment by The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. This would be Famuyiwa’s first big budget feature film after directing indie films like The Wood and Brown Sugar. Deadline says WB chose him for Flash due to the critical acclaim Dope received at Sundance, a film about a young geek growing up in a rough part of Los Angeles, adding that “the feeling internally was that Famuyiwa provided a vision that would resonate with young viewers and that vision was very compatible with the script that the studio is moving toward the start gate with.”

The Flash is set for a March 16, 2018 release date and stars Ezra Miller as the Scarlet Speedster. Miller made a cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and will appear as Flash again in Justice League Part One. He will also be seen next in WB’s Harry Potter spin off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in November.
