Rumour: Birds of Prey may launch Harley Quinn movie trilogy

January 21, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

In the wake of the positive reception to Margot Robbie’s portrayal in Suicide Squad, Warner Bros. and DC Films began working on a number of movies featuring the fan favourite villain, including a solo movie, Joker vs. Harley Quinn, Gotham City Sirens, Suicide Squad 2, and Birds of Prey – the latter of which is gearing up to go into production under the title Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

Well, if a new rumour from Geeks Worldwide is to be believed, Birds of Prey may be the first instalment in a Harley-centric trilogy of movies, with the site claiming that Warner Bros. is looking to follow-up the 2020 release with Gotham City Sirens, followed by the crossover Birds of Prey v Gotham City Sirens.

It’s unclear whether Gotham City Sirens would be the David Ayer iteration of the project, which was reportedly put on hold last year due to the numerous other Harley projects in the works, or if the intention would be to redevelop with the same creative team behind Birds of Prey.

As always, treat this as a rumour until we get some official confirmation, but be sure to let us know in the comments below or on social media if you’re excited about the prospect of this Harley trilogy and who you’d like to see taking on the role of Catwoman and Poison Ivy if the Gotham City Sirens talk is true…

Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs) is directing Birds of Prey from a script by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee) with Margot Robbie reprising her Suicide Squad role as Harley Quinn alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Fargo) as The Huntress, Jurnee Smolett-Bell (Underground) as Black Canary, Rosie Perez (Fearless) as Renee Montoya, Elle Jay Basco (Grey’s Anatomy) as Cassandra Cain, Ewan McGregor (Christopher Robin) as Black Mask, Chris Messina (Sharp Objects) as Victor Zsasz, Ali Wong (Black Box), Robert Catrini (Jack Reacher: Never Go Back), Steven Williams (The Chi), Dana Lee (Dr. Ken), Francois Chau (The Expanse, The Tick) and Matthew Willig (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs). It is set for release on February 7th 2020.
