We’re only three weeks out from our first slice of Star Wars on the big-screen since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker and the box-office boffins have been predicting how Disney+ spin-off Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu is going to fare.

According to The Hollywood Reporter the Jon Favreau-directed science-fiction blockbuster is tracking to open with approximately $80 million at the domestic box office over the four-day Memorial Day weekend. That’s reportedly in-line with Disney and Lucasfilm expectations.
If it opens in that range then it puts it in the same bracket as 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, which debuted with $84 million domestically over the three-day Memorial Day weekend, and a total of $104 million for the four days.
Favreau, who created the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, directed the movie from a script he co-wrote with Dave Filoni and Noah Kloor. The film will further the adventures of Pedro Pascal’s titular bounty hunter and his GIFable travelling companion Baby Yoda, aka Grogu. Also starring Sigourney Weaver and Jeremey Allen White, Mandalorian and Grogu has a few weeks to improve those numbers, including the May 4th Star Wars holiday, before we find out whether this is indeed the way.
The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.
