The Conjuring 4 finds its director in Michael Chaves

February 11, 2024 by EJ Moreno

The final mainline Conjuring film will soon haunt cinemas and has found its new director as The Hollywood Reporter broke the story that Michael Chaves will return for another spooky outing and set to helm The Conjuring 4 for Warner Bros. Pictures.

Chaves is a franchise regular at this point, helming 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and last year’s spinoff, The Nun II. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who previously penned the movie with franchise creator James Wan, has written the screenplay for this fourth movie. Wan is producing with Peter Safran.

In January 2023, Wan spoke about the final installment: “Yeah, we are working on [The Conjuring 4] right now. With The Conjuring films, we are very precious about [them]. And so we kind of want to just take our time to make sure we get it right and to make sure the emotion of the Warren stories that we want to tell, and moving into, and potentially wrapping up, we just want to make sure that it’s the right thing, the right story that we’re telling” says Wan.

While not officially confirmed, The Conjuring stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are expected to return for the final instalment, which is rumoured to be titled The Conjuring: Last Rites. Shooting will begin in Atlanta this May.
