Yellowstone spin-off focusing on Kayce Dutton in development

March 30, 2025 by Ricky Church

Though Yellowstone concluded in December, Paramount is not quite done with the hit TV series just yet as early development has begun on another spin-off focusing on Luke Grime’s Kayce Dutton.

The youngest child of the Dutton family, Kayce always butted heads with his father John, played by Kevin Costner, and felt burdened by the family legacy and responsibility that the ranch, along with all the crimes the Dutton commit in order to retain the land and their power, could fall to him one day. In the series finale, Kayce finally managed to break free from the Yellowstone by selling it to Thomas Rainwater and the Broken Rock Indian Reservation.

The potential series will follow Kayce in his role as livestock commissioner and a former Navy SEAL, being described as a procedural rather than the drama Yellowstone and its prequels have been, and a separate entity from the other spin-off following Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser’s Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler.

Rather than being created and run by Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, Spencer Hudnut (SEAL Team) is developing the series and may showrun for Paramount to air on CBS instead of Paramount+, Peacock or other streaming services. They are waiting for approval from Sheridan as well as commitment from Hudnut to work on another broadcast series.

In addition to the Beth and Rip spin-off, Yellowstone is currently airing the second of 1923 and is in production of another new series The Madison, which stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Elle Chapman, Beau Garrett and Patrick J. Adams.
