Connie Britton joins Ryan Murphy’s O.J. Simpson series American Crime Story

March 24, 2015 by William Fanelli

Writer/director Ryan Murphy and Connie Britton must have enjoyed working together on American Horror Story because the duo are collaborating again on his upcoming AHS companion series American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson.

Last night Murphy tweeted the news saying, “Excited to announce my friend Connie Britton will play Faye Resnick” in the first season of his upcoming, highly-anticipated true crime miniseries. If you can remember that far back, Resnick was a friend of Nicole Brown Simpson who, as a result of her reported drug-related debts, became involved in the case when O.J.’s defense team argued they prompted hit men to murder Simpson and Goldman.

Britton is now the second American Horror Story vet, along with Sarah Paulson (to play Marcia Clark), to join the show. Also onboard for the series are David Schwimmer playing Simpson’s good friend and attorney Robert Kardashian, Courtney B. Vance as Johnnie Cochran, John Travolta as Robert Shapiro and Cuba Gooding Jr. as O.J. Simpson.

American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson is created and exec produced by Murphy and fellow AHS collaborator Brad Falchuk. The series was scripted by Murphy, with the first two episodes penned by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (The People vs. Larry Flynt), and is based upon Jeffrey Toobin’s book The Run of His Life: The People v.s O.J. Simpson

The controversial miniseries will stick to the model set by Murphy’s American Horror Story, with the following seasons to focus on a different crime, likely played by an alternate cast (or at least like its sister series… it should provide a few fresh faces).

It will be interesting to see who gets cast in the roles of Brian “Kato” Kaelin and detective Mark Fuhrman, two more very memorable pieces of the puzzle who’ve yet to be announced.
