Letitia Wright would like to see Shuri take on the mantle of the Black Panther

May 28, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

During an appearance at MCM London Comic-Con, Black Panther star Letitia Wright has revealed to Screen Geek that – as with the Marvel comic books – she’d be very keen to see her character Shuri taking over the mantle of Wakanda’s protector, the Black Panther, in a future Marvel movie.

“If the opportunity came about, then why not?” said Wright. “It would be comic book accurate. Yeah, that would be amazing. It means more training, more learning and it would really be an amazing adventure. Shuri becomes a savage in the comic books. From going to comedic and fun and like a kid – to then just pulling out some claws. I’m excited.”

Wakanda does currently have a vacancy for a Black Panther following the events of Avengers: Infinity War, although Avengers 4 will presumably correct the fallout from Thanos’ finger snap before we get to Black Panther 2.

Still, assuming Shuri survived her confrontation with Corvus Glaive, perhaps we could see her suiting up alongside the remaining members of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in the as-yet untitled Avengers sequel?

After the events of Captain America: Civil War, King T’Challa returns home to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country’s new leader. However, T’Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne from factions within his own country. When two foes conspire to destroy Wakanda, the hero known as Black Panther must team up with C.I.A. agent Everett K. Ross and members of the Dora Milaje, Wakandan special forces, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war.

Black Panther sees Ryan Coogler (Creed) directing Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa alongside Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Forest Whitaker as Zuri, Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, Florence Kasumba as Ayo, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Sterling K. Brown as N’Jobu, John Kani as King T’Chaka and Nabiyah Be as Linda.
