Armie Hammer says Call Me By Your Name sequel definitely happening

September 11, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Last year, director Luca Guadagnino suggested that he could follow up his acclaimed drama Call Me By Your Name with a Before Sunrise-series of films revisiting Armie Hammer and Timothee Chalamet’s characters after various intervals of time, and – according to Hammer – a sequel will happen, and development is already underway.

“It will happen because there are already people working on it and trying to make it happen. How much do I know and how much could I tell you are two very different things. I know a lot, but I can’t tell you anything.

“More than anything I trust the artistic direction to Luca and [novelist] André Aciman and to those guys who did such a good job handling it the first time around. The only thing I want to see is I want to see it happen. I want to do it again.

I miss the whole crew. It was such a special time. It was such a collaborative, unique, and totally immersive filming experience that I never really had, nor since. If we get to do another one, I’ll feel really lucky.”

Based on Aciman’s 2007 novel of the same name, Call Me By Your Name explores the relationship between Chalamet’s teenager Elio and Hammer’s Oliver, an older man hired as his father’s research assistant. It won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, and was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor (Chalamet) and Best Original Song.
