After a shambolic opening weekend which saw its director taking to social media to voice his displeasure, the film earning the lowest ever CinemaScore for a studio superhero movie, and bombing at the box office with a worldwide haul of just $60.3 million, the Fantastic Fallout from Fantastic Four continued this week as details emerged suggesting that Josh Trank was almost fired before – and during – production on the superhero reboot, as well as the studio locking him out of the editing room and deciding to cut three big action scenes just days before cameras started rolling. Screenwriter Jeremy Slater also revealed that much of his script failed to make it to the final movie, while Josh Trank’s Chronicle scribe Max Landis also posted a few pages of his own rejected screenplay, which you can see here…
…Despite rumours suggesting that Fox has made the decision to pull Fantastic Four 2 from its June 9th 2017 release date in favour of a sequel to Deadpool, the studio’s chief of domestic distribution Chris Aronson has stated that: “While we’re disappointed [by the film’s reception], we remain committed to these characters and Now, whether Fantastic Four 2 is part of that is anyone’s guess…

…Having skipped the San Diego Comic-Con this year, big things are expected from Marvel Studios today at Disney’s D23 Expo. Plans are being kept under wraps, but it’s expected that we’ll get our first look at Captain America: Civil War, and some set photos popped up this week featuring a fully suited up Black Panther alongside Captain America and The Winter Soldier’s stunt doubles, while we also got two alleged images of the new Spider-Man – the first has already been debunked, but the second remains a possibility…
…Andrew Garfield spoke about the upcoming Spider-Man reboot for the first time since his departure this week, offering up some praise for his successor: “It feels lovely, especially because Tom Holland is a really, really great actor,” said Garfield, who portrayed Spider-Man in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and its 2014 sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2. “He was in this movie The Impossible and he was just this incredibly powerful, sensitive, just wonderful young actor. And [he’s] a dancer, so his body’s the right [form]. I’m just really excited to just be a fan again as opposed to bearing the weight of it.
…During the San Diego Comic-Con, Wesley Snipes claimed that he’s had talks with Marvel Studios about returning to the role of Blade, and the action star had a few more comments on the topic this week, stating that: “Well, we’ve had some discussions. We have had very positive and favorable discussions about the Blade character and other things they have in mind. We’ll see where it goes. For those Blade fans, if we never reprise Blade, I have another character that will stand toe to toe with Blade any day. It’s not done yet…”
…MMA star Ronda Rousey has thrown her hat into the ring – or rather Octagon – for the role of Carol Danvers in 2018’s Captain Marvel. During a Reddit AMA, Rousey was asked if she’d like to appear as a superhero, responding that: “Well… a lot of the good ones have been taken, but I’d like to vie for Miss Marvel…”
…Whatever Marvel Studios has up its sleeve for D23, it seems it won’t include any announcements for the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, with director James Gunn revealing that he won’t be at the convention as “we just aren’t ready to announce anything substantial yet for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2…”

…This week also brought us a few new set photos from the second season of the Netflix series Daredevil, which see Jon Bernthal’s Punisher in action…
…Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron just can’t seem to avoid accusations of sexism. Joss Whedon came under fire for his handling of Black Widow, while Mark Ruffalo complained about the lack of merchandising for the female characters, and now the studio has stirred things up again with the cover to the UK DVD and special edition Blu-ray, which omits Scarlett Johansson’s character in favour of the core four of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Hulk.
