Emma Stone denies reports that she’s in Spider-Man: No Way Home

May 30, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Having wrapped filming back in March, Marvel and Sony have so far done a pretty impressive job of keeping details on Spider-Man: No Way Home under wraps.

With Tom Holland’s Spidey expected to encounter some multiverse shenanigans, almost every character from Sony’s past Spider-Man movies have been rumoured to return, including the ex-wall crawlers Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

Some have spoken out to deny reports, including Garfield who said that he “did not get a call” for the sequel, and now his Amazing Spider-Man co-star Emma Stone has also shot down talk of her reprising the role of Gwen Stacy.

“I have heard those rumors, I don’t know if I’m supposed to say anything, but I’m not [in it],” said the Cruella star when asked by MTV News about her potential involvement with No Way Home. “I don’t know what you’re supposed to respond as an alumnus.”

Now, not every actor is Alfred Molina (who had no qualms about discussing his return as Doc Ock) and it’s certainly not beyond the realm of possibility that both Stone and Garfield are telling fibs in order to preserve the surprise. However, the Oscar-winner was pregnant throughout much of No Way Home’s production, and so one would assume that if we are going to see Stone’s Gwen Stacy again, it will likely be a fleeting appearance at best.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is slated for release on December 17th 2021 and sees Jon Watts (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home) directing Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Zendaya (MJ), Marisa Tomei (Aunt May), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds), Tony Revolori (Flash Thompson), Jamie Foxx (Electro) and Alfred Molina (Doctor Octopus).
