The Week in Disappointment – Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Star Wars: the Force Awakens, Indiana Jones

January 1, 2016 by Anghus Houvouras

Anghus Houvouras with this week’s disappointments from the entertainment world…

“George Lucas calls Disney “white slavers”, suggests he’s not a fan of “retro” tone of Star Wars: The Force Awakens“

Remember when George Lucas accused film audiences of being racist because they didn’t turn out to see the awful Red Tails? And you cringed at hearing him talk like the billionaire who created Star Wars had any real understanding of racism. Well, ol’ flannel clad George is at it again. This time it’s calling Disney ‘white slavers’. Lucas has apparently embraced his role as the Old Crazy Grandpa of pop culture and will be readily available to dish out uncomfortable conversations until they stop making Star Wars movies… which according to latest estimates is ‘never’. Thank God Disney doesn’t have their hands on any other of Lucas’ toys…

“Disney’s Bob Iger says new Indiana Jones movie is coming“

Uh oh. Somebody get Grandpa George his medication and an electric blanket before he starts hurling uncomfortable racial epithets.

“James Gunn says Captain America: Civil War is “one of the best Marvel movies ever”

It’s always good when you get those objective, unbiased voices to share their opinion. I seem to recall James Cameron telling me that Termintor: Genisys was awesome.

“Leonardo DiCaprio on turning down the role of Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels“

I’m surprised. You would have thought the top A-List young actors would have been chomping at the bit to stand in front a green screen for eight months and read amazing dialogue about how sand gets everywhere.

“Captain Phasma IMAX poster for Star Wars: The Force Awakens”

An impressive piece of artwork which truly captures the character of Captain Phasma in The Force Awakens i.e. she’s standing around doing nothing.

“Kevin Feige says Benedict Cumberbatch’s popularity nearly cost him Doctor Strange role“

“He became so popular, we nearly had to pay him what he was worth. That’s not how we do things here at Marvel Studios.”
