The Wicked sequel is here, and it’s a spectacle. The blockbuster of the fall is impactful, but how does it stand up during the awards season? Only time will tell, but you have to be moved by what the film says through its explosive, beautiful story. It also shockingly overcomes many of the issues the stage show’s second half faces, even if it falls into its own filmmaking issues.

As an angry mob rises against the Wicked Witch, Glinda and Elphaba will need to come together one final time. With their singular friendship now the fulcrum of their futures, they will need to truly see each other, with honesty and empathy, if they are to change themselves, and all of Oz, for good.
