The Top 100 Your Sinclair ZX Spectrum Games: #78 – Flying Shark

June 11, 2016 by Villordsutch

With Ultimate’s Atic Atac, which was the last game looked at in the chart, our fortunes are continuing to run high as swooping in from Firebird at Number #78 is Flying Shark, the Taito coin-op classic from 1987.

This is our second game in the countdown from Firebird so far – the first being Gyron – however unlike the last game which currently resides in my own personal Hell, Flying Shark is a game I am more than happy to sing the praises about.

It’s another simple affair really – a vertical shooter in which you’re Biplane constantly fly up the screen and numerous enemies attacking you from all angles, air, ground or sea.  Created by Craftgold Ltd, these were also the people behind a number of classics for Hewson Consultants Ltd. too.

Tiger Shark managed to stay perfect on the ZX Spectrum by sticking to the basics, delivering a simple monochrome colour scheme, which also managed to keep the games speed at an excellent pace too.  This along with an excellent soundtrack from Steve Turner [listen to that here] making the game a total winner.
