Captain Marvel will not be undergoing a page one rewrite

August 17, 2017 by Gary Collinson

A couple of days ago it was announced that Tomb Raider writer Geneva Robertson-Dworet is taking over scripting duties on Captain Marvel from Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman, who wrote the original screenplay for the upcoming Marvel blockbuster.

And now, Guardians of the Galaxy writer Perlman has taken to Twitter to discuss the switch-up, revealing that Robertson-Dworet will be working on their script, rather than a page one rewrite, and that the movie will still retain the elements revealed at Comic-Con – i.e. an early 90s setting, and Carol Danvers battling the Skrulls.

“Happy to confirm my pal Geneva Robertson-Dworet will be the next writer to help guide Captain Marvel’s journey to the screen. She’s stellar!” said Perlman on Twitter. “Geneva is taking it from here and I’m sure she’ll knock it out of the park. It’s been a great 2.5 years though. All the ideas the SDCC Marvel panel shared this year were pre-Geneva’s involvement. Others will stay too. Can’t say more.  Which is all to say – it’s going to be fine, and the project is in excellent hands.”

Captain Marvel will be directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck and stars Brie Larson in the title role. Samuel L. Jackson had been announced as reprising the role of Nick Fury, although the actor revealed earlier this week that he’s yet to sign on to the project.
