Comic Book Review – Dexter #2

August 29, 2013 by admin

Robb Ghag reviews Dexter #2….

“Dexter doesn’t just have killer instincts as a forensic blood spatter expert. He’s also murdering bad guys in his spare time as Miami’s hometown serial killer! The Dark Passenger, Dexter’s razor sharp sixth sense, is going off the charts as bodies continue to drop in Miami! Detective Deborah Morgan’s murder investigation leads Dexter and her to more questions and suspects.“

Jeff Lindsay continues Dexter’s journey in the world of comics with the introduction of Detective Deborah Morgan.

First and foremost the writing continues to be stellar, as Dexter’s monologue gives a deep insight into how the mass murderer thinks, and his instincts during the conversations with Steve Gonzalez.  Assuming that Steve is the actual killer, I can only assume there are still a numerous amounts of twists and turns ahead for Dex and his dark passenger.

Michael Del Mundo again delivers a great cover with issue #2, simple but stylistic the detail is astute and one can’t help but be drawn into Dexter’s devious smile, highlighted by a flaming bottle.  Inside the illustration work from Dalibor Talajic gives the story a great flow and symmetry.

Being familiar with the television show it’s hard not to hear Michael C. Hall or Jennifer Carpenter’s voice while reading the book.  I’m assuming this is the same with most people who watch the show.

Although this book does stand out on its own, it’ll be interesting to see in which direction Jeff Lindsay takes Dexter, and if there will be any crossover (either in story or with the characters) between the novels, the television series and the comic.

We’ll just have to wait and see.
