Ezra Miller says Flashpoint will be the “DC Hyper-Extended Multiverse”

November 22, 2017 by Gary Collinson

In the build up to the release of Justice League, it was rumoured that Warner Bros.’ planned Flashpoint movie was dependent on the success of the DC team-up.

As we’ve now seen, Justice League underperformed at the box office with the lowest domestic opening of the DCEU so far, but DC Films’ Geoff Johns has confirmed that Flashpoint remains part of the studios plans (and will include Batman), and speaking to EW, Flash actor Ezra Miller has stated that he also remains upbeat about the possibility.

“The development of the project has been a little Barry Allen-like in its mercurial tendencies, but it looks more promising and more exciting than any of the other stages of development that we’ve been in,” said Miller. “What fans understand when they hear Flashpoint would be almost like hearing a word like ‘Crisis.’ We start to understand that our precious DC universe will inevitably be torn asunder to an endless, headache-inducing fabric of multiversality. The DC Hyper-Extended Multiverse, as I plan to call it. Quote me.”

SEE ALSO: Why The Flash movie shouldn’t be Flashpoint

If you’re unfamiliar with the comic book storyline of Flashpoint, it sees Barry Allen waking up powerless in an alternate timeline, where Wonder Woman leads the Amazons in a world war against Aquaman and the Atlanteans, Thomas Wayne has donned the cape and cowl as Batman, and the U.S. governement has kept Kal-El hidden away from the sun, preventing his turn into Superman.

If rumours are to be believed, Ezra Miller will be joined in the cast of the film by Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, while Jeffrey Dean Morgan has expressed his interest in portraying Thomas Wayne. However, given the premise of Flashpoint, it’s also possible that Warner Bros. could use the movie as a soft reboot of sorts, perhaps even introducing a new actor such as Jake Gyllenhaal as a replacement for Ben Affleck’s Batman. The possibilities are endless really, but at this point it’s all just speculation…
