Arrow showrunner on the possibility of a Star City 2040 spinoff

April 9, 2019 by Gary Collinson

With Arrow marching full speed ahead towards its eighth and final season, the DC show has been giving us a peek at the future of Star City this year, with flash-forwards taking place in the year 2040 and featuring characters such as William Queen (Ben Lewis), Mia Smoak (Katherine McNamara), Zoe Ramirez (Andrea Sixtos) and Connor Hawke (Joseph David-Jones).

Last month, the show devoted almost an entire episode to this future setting, something which certainly felt like a back door pilot – or at least, a test of the waters – for a potential spinoff series. And, speaking to TV Line, showrunner Beth Schwartz has pretty much confirmed this to be a possibility in the future:

“It was definitely meant to grow the world that we had already built and to see the next generation of what Oliver and Felicity and our present-day team have worked so hard for, and sort of see what happens in the future. We love those characters and would love to see them go on in some capacity after the show’s over. We were so happy, internally, about how it came out. We kind love our future story.”

With Arrow’s shortened eighth and final season set to get underway later in the year, would you be interesting in continuing to explore the Arrow universe with a Star City 2040 show? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @FlickeringMyth…
