Fox Searchlight Pictures has released four images from the upcoming biopic Tolkien which gives us our first look at Nicholas Hoult as The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien along with Lily Collins as his wife Edith; take a look here…
The film explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the “fellowship” apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-earth novels.
Tolkien is directed by Dome Karukoski from a script by David Gleeson and Stephen Beresford, and sees Nicholas Hoult joined in the cast by Lily Collins, Colm Meaney, Anthony Boyle, Patrick Gibson, Tom Glynn-Carney, Craig Roberts, Laura Donnelly, Genevieve O’Reilly, Pam Ferris and Derek Jacobi. It is set for release on May 3rd 2019 in the UK and May 10th 2019 in North America.
