First look at Jon Hamm as Archangel Gabriel in Good Omens

December 1, 2017 by Ricky Church

As production continues on Amazon’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Good Omens, the studio has released the first picture of Mad Men star Jon Hamm as the Archangel Gabriel. The series is currently filming in the UK for a 2019 premiere date. Hamm will be starring opposite Michael Sheen (Passengers) as the angel Aziraphale and David Tennant (Doctor Who) as the demon Crowley. Check it out below…

“I read Good Omens almost twenty years ago,” Jon Hamm said. “I thought it was one of the funniest, coolest books I’d ever read. It was also, obviously, unfilmable. Two months ago Neil sent me the scripts, and I knew I had to be in it.”

“Gabriel is everything that Aziraphale isn’t: he’s tall, good-looking, charismatic and impeccably dressed,” Gaiman said. “We were fortunate that Jon Hamm was available, given that he is already all of these things without even having to act. We were even more fortunate that he’s a fan of the books and a remarkable actor.”

Claire Anderson, Good Omens costume designer, also made a statement on how they adapted Gabriel’s look for the series. “Gabriel is the leader of the angels, and the most stylish and impeccably dressed of all of them, so we chose an immaculately tailored suit that Jon Hamm wears to perfection, in light colours, along with lilac accessories to bring out Gabriel’s unnerving violet eyes.”

According to the Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch – the world’s only totally reliable guide to the future, written in 1655, before she exploded – the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just after tea…

People have been predicting the end of the world almost from its very beginning, so it’s only natural to be sceptical when a new date is set for Judgement Day. This time though, the armies of Good and Evil really do appear to be massing. The four Bikers of the Apocalypse are hitting the road. But both the angels and demons – well, one fast-living demon and a somewhat fussy angel – would quite like the Rapture not to happen.

And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist…

Good Omens will air on Amazon Prime and BBC Two, and features a cast that includes David Tennant (Doctor Who), Michael Sheen (Masters of Sex), Jack Whitehall (Fresh Meat), Michael McKean (Better Call Saul), Miranda Richardson (Churchill), Adria Arjona (True Detective), Nina Sosanya (Marcella), Ned Dennehy (Peaky Blinders), Ariyon Bakare (New Blood), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Anna Maxwell Martin (Becoming Jane), Mireille Enos (The Killing), Lourdes Faberes (Knightfall), and Yusuf Gatewood (The Originals). It is slated to premiere in 2019.
