Jurassic World topples The Avengers for the biggest-ever domestic opening weekend

June 15, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Yesterday it was announced that Jurassic World had smashed the record for the biggest ever worldwide opening weekend, pulling in $511 million around the globe, and now with the final numbers being tallied it looks like the Colin Trevorrow-directed dino sequel has also overtaken The Avengers to claim the domestic crown.

Initial estimates had put Jurassic World on $204.6 million for the three days, leaving it trailing The Avengers’ $207.4 million record. However, with a stronger than expected Sunday, it’s now being reported that Jurassic World will end up with $209 million for the weekend.

Between Jurassic World and Fast & Furious 7, it’s certainly shaping up to be a stellar year for Universal at the box office!
