The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has announced the nominations for the 96th Academy Awards as Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer leads the field, racking up a total of 13 nominations including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor (Cillian Murphy)
There’s a distinct Barbenheimer flavour to this year’s nominations, with Barbie also securing a Best Picture nomination, and while there was no room in the Directing or Best Actress categories for Greta Gerwig or Margot Robbie, both Ryan Gosling and America Ferrara are nominated in the Best Supporting Actor and Actress categories respectively as part of the film’s eight nominations.
It’s a full house in the Best Picture field, with Oppenheimer and Barbie vying for the Oscar against eight other nominees in American Fiction, Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers, Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, Past Lives, Poor Things and The Zone of Interest.
